The effectiveness of Lean Six Sigma Black Belts

Have you ever wondered why issues at work persist, even when many people are unhappy about them? It’s likely that several attempts to resolve the problem were made, yet it kept coming back. The underlying issue here is that true improvement does not work without knowing exactly what to resolve. This insight and the skill of finding out and exposing the real root cause of a problem is what makes Black Belts the driving force behind the resolving and prevention of problems. Black Belts know which changes truly contribute. And only through this understanding can lasting improvements be achieved.

The organizational benefits

All organizations benefit enormously from a reduction of waste. Imagine a department where workflows aren’t disrupted by a lack of materials, waiting times, or defects. By reducing waste, you improve productivity. Lean Six Sigma typically defines 7 types of waste, and Black Belts know how to eliminate each of them. They achieve this either through initiatives on a daily basis, or through complex, inter-departmental projects. The latter is where Black Belts achieve the most significant results, and how they are best utilized. During the training, participants are taught all the essential tools and methods, how to involve stakeholders, and keep efforts focused until results are in the bag.

The path to becoming certified as a Black Belt according to the ISO 18404 standards requires you to complete both a theory training and an in-field Lean Six Sigma project. The theory training takes place over the course of multiple days and is supported by a full digital suite of preparation materials. For the project you will receive coaching and project review from an experienced Lean Six Sigma expert.

If circumstances do not allow for a project during the same timeframe as the theory training, it is possible to start with theory only and to move on to your project at a later point in time.

Results and cold, hard facts are often the best way to justify a purchase. Our courses are no different, and deliver said results without fail. After having trained thousands of students in the Lean Six Sigma methodology, we have found that Black Belt projects can reduce costs by up to 6, or even 7 figures, often from the very first project. And with projects taking approximately 4-6 months, it is even possible to carry out multiple projects a year.

If it’s a training for an entire team you’re looking for, then our In-Company pages will be of interest. Our trainers will also host every training we offer to individuals in your organization. There’s no easier way to get started with Lean or Lean Six Sigma as a team than with our In-Company training.

Frequently asked questions

1. Can I enroll and join a training without any prior experience or knowledge of Lean Six Sigma?

Every training we provide assumes our students start the training without any understanding of the Lean Six Sigma methodology. It starts with the fundamentals and explains every topic that is mentioned without assuming prior experience. During the training, you will carry out simulations and exercises to help you develop your knowledge. If you choose to carry out a project as part of your training, you will be coached and assisted by one of the (Master) Black Belts of The Lean Six Sigma Company to help you get started.

2. What is the right training for me?

This depends on your goals and what you intend to achieve. If you would prefer to employ Lean Six Sigma on a part-time basis, for example alongside of other work, the Green Belt training would be the best choice. If it’s your aim to work with Continuous Improvement and Lean Six Sigma on a full-time basis, then the Black Belt training would be the right pick. The same applies to Lean and our Lean Practitioner and Lean Leader training, respectively.

3. Is a Lean Six Sigma training relevant to my career phase?

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that one can start using during any career phase and this training is the ideal starting point. Even as a beginner, your work can add tremendous value. Lean Six Sigma can serve as an addition to your current work, replacing a part of your existing responsibilities. Or it can become a new full-time career, depending on the training you choose.

4. How does the ‘Services’ training differ from the ‘Manufacturing’ training?

The Services training is most fitting for those employed in transactional careers such as general administration, logistics, finance, etc. The ‘Manufacturing’ training is most fitting for those involved with mass production, machinery, factories and automation). While the Of course, those who complete the Manufacturing training can still carry out projects in the aforementioned transactional fields.

5. I find statistics a daunting topic, is a Lean Six Sigma training still for me?

The Green Belt training has very little statistics content, as opposed to our Black Belt course. Yet even the Black Belt courses have designed to start at the very basics, on the assumption that our students aren’t familiar with anything related to statistics. We realize the idea of working with statistics can sound somewhat intimidating, but our trainers have helped thousands of students understand (and find their interest in) statistics. Additionally, we offer complementary courses and several videos on our MyTraining™ platform that will help you prepare for, or repeat, specific exercises.

6. Do you offer training in other languages?

More information about our worldwide presence can be found on our worldmap page, here you will find in which countries we are currently active and offer training.

7. Green Belt vs Black Belt

The main difference is the scope of your projects. Green Belt projects are usually aimed at solving issues that affect a small part of a single department. Black Belt projects tend to tackle long-standing, complex issues that cross departmental lines. The responsibilities of a Green Belt align with those of a project manager. Black Belts carry more responsibilities and take a more active, leading role where they direct other Green Belts during projects.
